Me, Myself & I

My name is Richard Atterer. There have been rumours that I don't actually exist in a non-digital form - not true! To prove it, here is a page about the two of us, my body and me.

[Map of Germany showing the location of Augsburg]

I was born on the 6th of March (the Michelangelo day, but I surely didn't write the virus!) 1977 in Augsburg. As you can see from the map, Augsburg is situated in southern Germany, in the state of Bavaria. Founded around the year 15 B.C., the city has grown to about 260,000 inhabitants. A very beautiful city, with many old buildings - follow the link for some pictures!

After attending grades 1 to 4 at the primary school in Stadtbergen, I went to the Holbein-Gymnasium in Augsburg where I got my Abitur in the summer of 1996. The school building was erected in 1251 as a monastery, and was turned into a school 150 years ago. The best-known pupils of the "Holbein" (named after the medieval painter, some of whose pictures were painted for the monastery) are Rudolf Diesel (yes, the Diesel who invented the Diesel engine) and Johann Deisenhofer, who was awarded the Nobel prize in 1988. (It also seems that Mr Deisenhofer is remotely related to me - nice!)

programming]

From October 1996 to October 1997 I did a year of social services at the Kurzzeitpflege Pfersee instead of going to the army.

After that, I was a student of computer science at the Technische Universität München. (Munich is located 60 km southeast of Augsburg.)

Currently, I am an assistant and PhD student at Munich's other university, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

I am a Debian Linux developer.
